Introducing Uk Newspapers Plus 3.0

We have been working hard to bring to you the best news application to follow news in the UK and more. With version 3.0, we have removed advertisements and add several new features to the application including:

- Update new improved better graphics
- Add Favorites feature
- Update some newspapers, add Yorkshire Evening Post under request from a reviewer.
- Add an option to view Desktop site instead of the Mobile site through Settings
- Fix sharing bugs to Facebook and Tumblr
- Remove advertisements
- Introduce the subscription purchase
- Fix minor bugs

We add a subscription model for each month at the price of only $1.99 to read all the newspapers from the UK and the US and more, either viewing their mobile site or desktop site.

Below, we describe each new feature and how to use the application in a brief summary

1. Favorites:
When you tap on a newspaper, if you are interested in reading a specific section of that newspaper, you can tap on the Favorite( Star ) button next to the section. You will be able to rename the section as you want.
On the front page, tapping on the Favorites icon to see all of your favorites.

2. View Mobile Site vs Desktop Site
On the Settings page when you tap on the top-left corner, you will see a new label available for each newspaper: Preferred Desktop Site. The default is False, if you tap on the switch and change to True, the next time you open the newspaper by tapping on the headline of the newspaper, it will try to visit the Desktop version of the site.

3. Remove advertisements and add subscription model
In the application, there is no longer advertisement, however, we introduce a subscription model that is obligatory for every user to purchase, either a 1 month subscription or the unlimited subscription.
With this new model, we will be able to support further the Search feature that will enable users to Search for any topic and see in which newspapers the topic appears. This feature is coming soon.

4. Add some new newspapers, such as the Yorkshire Evening Post based on a request of a reviewer. And fix sharing to social networks: Facebook and Tumblr, and also some minor bugs.

We hope that you enjoy the application and continue to support us.

All the bests,

sunflowerapps team.

FAQ

Q: How do I use the offline reading features?

A: You need to configure at least one newspaper, or a section of a newspaper to be in offline reading mode. Tap on the “Sync Now” button will activate the syncing process. When it is done, you are ready to go! Go back to the home screen, where there are many newspapers, tap on the newspaper icon that you already configured to be synced, the articles will be shown there.

Q: I start the application, it does not show any newspapers, only a blank page, what do I need to do?

A: Probably you have started the application without having the internet connection, you need to restart the app to let it download the newspapers for the FIRST TIME ONLY. The next time you start, all newspapers and sections are already saved into your iPhone/iPod locally.

Q: Why do I see only some sections of my favorite newspaper?

A: We make use of RSS available in the newspaper’s website to preconfigure them for you. Even though we already tried our best to get all the most useful sections of those newspapers, there are still some newspapers that do not expose enough sections.

Q: Why do I see only some articles of a section to read?

A: The newspaper has configured their settings to show only some limited number of articles, we can not do anything more. We tried to show maximum 20 articles for each section. In the future version, we will try to enable unlimited articles scrolling from right to left.

Q: I see only one article for the section of a newspaper, how do I read the remaining articles?

A: You need to swipe from right to left to read the remaining articles.

Q: How do I share an article to Facebook, Twitter, Instapaper or Readitlater, or email article?

A: You need to tap on the Action button in the upper right corner to select which social network or reading application you want to use.

Q: How do I arrange my favorite newspapers to the page one?

A: You need to go to the Manage Newspapers page, in each row there is a small icon, you can hold the icon of the newspaper and move it to top. Go back to the home screen and  see the result. Next time you start the application, you will see this configuration by default.

Q: How do I arrange the sections that I am interested to the top?

A: You need to go to the Manage Indexes page, by tapping on the newspaper row inside the Manage Newspapers page. In this page, you can configure which sections will be shown first, which one second. You can even configure a specific section to be downloaded for offline reading.

Q: What does the “Sync Now” button mean?

A: It will download all the newspapers, or sections that were configured to use offline reading mode into your iPhone or iPod Touch. You view the downloaded articles by returning to the home screen and tap the newspaper’s icon, then the section.

Q: I already configure some newspapers to be in offline reading mode, then I tapped on the newspapers and the section to read, but it does not show anything?

A: You need to go back to the home screen and tap the newspaper’s icon to read the articles of the configured sections.

Q: How do I support the development of my favorite applications?

A: The best way is to leave a great comments in the AppStore so we have new customers to support our development of new features and porting the application to many devices as possible. iPad support is coming soon to all applications with NO CHARGE. You just need to update the application when the new update is available.

Q: When there will be support for Retina Display?

A: We are going to bring Retina Display support for all applications soon.

Q: In some pages, I need to swipe two times to get the next articles?

A: Each articles vary by each newspaper’s format, even though we tried to fix as many as we can, there are still some articles that are not displayed correctly. We will try our best to bring better experience on using our apps.

Q: Can I add my own source to read?

A: We plan to release this feature in the future version to all our application.

Q: The application does not show the full article, how do I read the full article?

A: You need to tap on the heading (the white one) to read the full article. This will link you to the newspaper’s website with the correct article’s link.

Q: I can not read the full article of a paid newspaper?

A: We currently do not support any method to bypass the newspaper’s control to read the full article on their website, neither changing the user agent nor any other method. Subscribing to the newspaper will help them bring the best contents ever to you.

Q: How do I get more support if all the above questions, answers are not enough?

A: You can always contact us by email: support@sunflowerapps.com, we normally reply to every incoming mail within hours

New updates submitted to the AppStore

We have spent over two weeks to reshape the framework for all of our news reading applications.

  •  "SYNC NOW" FOR OFFLINE READING

The best news is that now you can sync all of your favorite newspapers with one tap to read it on your iPod Touch.

Sunflowerapps iPhone application "Sync Now" all newspapers

It is a fantastic function and we really love this. We have never thought to have this with our apps because we use our application mainly on the iPhone with the internet connection over WIFI and 3G very often.

But, recently, a very enthusiated user in the USA who was thrilled about a company that published news applications in three languages that he/she speaks, as a result, he purchased all three applications at the same time. But he/she was dissapointed because the applications do not sync newspapers on his iPod Touch. We feel the urgent needs to implement this function to satisfy our users.

Sunflowerapps iPhone application "Sync Now"

So, as of today, we proudly present the “Sync Now” button to enable syncing all of your favorite newspapers, you can start your day by “Sync Now” and take all of your favorite newspapers on the go. You can select every sections of your newspapers by simply tap the Add button on the left side of the newspaper or tap on the newspaper itself to select a specific section of the newspapers. You can disable Syncing of a newspaper or a section by tapping the Delete button, notice that Delete will not delete your newspapers or section but it just change the Syncing status to NO.

Sunflowerapps iPhone application - "Sync Now" function

  •  SHARING YOUR ARTICLES EVEN OFFLINE

We use the open source sharekit from  Nate Weiner(http://ideashower.com) so it has all the benefits of sharing articles to all major social networks and applications.

While online, you can share your articles to Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, or send them to Instapaper, Read it later, or even email articles, copy articles, etc.

While offline, you can still use these functions, it will save all of your actions and when you are online, it sends in background to these services.

The sharingkit uses OAuth to authenticate all the requests, so your username/password to these services are safe. You can disable at anytime the authentication of one of our applications to these services by visiting their appropriate sites. We do not keep your usernames/passwords in our server or send them to any other third parties. You usernames/passwords are used only for authentication to the corresponding services.
